Where it comes from: EU TEDB publishes these officially and dated (SOAP, verified 12 Aug) but covers the EU-27 only; absent from OECD SDMX (1546 flows), Eurostat, IMF and World Bank, so the rest of the world has no source we accept. Values appear the moment the pipeline confirms them — Fiatmap never fills a ranking with estimates.
How to read this figure
The standard VAT/GST rate: the headline rate on ordinary goods and services. Most countries apply reduced rates to food, books or transport, so the effective rate on a real basket is lower. Not published here yet, and the reason is coverage. The European Commission publishes these rates for the EU-27 officially, each dated to the day it took effect. No comparable source exists for the rest of the world — the rate is absent from OECD, Eurostat, IMF and World Bank data — and we would rather leave the field empty than publish a quarter of the map from official figures and the rest from an aggregator.
